Pack for heat and exposure, but also for darkness, rough volcanic ground and a night with fewer comforts than a hotel stay.

Wear the ground well

Closed walking shoes with dependable grip are more useful than fashion footwear. Add breathable clothing, a sun hat and a light layer for wind or the cooler pre-dawn hours.

Carry personal essentials

Bring a headlamp with spare power, sunscreen, personal medication, a compact hygiene kit and any prescribed emergency supplies. Your guide will explain the water plan and shared camping equipment.

Protect cameras and batteries

Dust and heat are hard on equipment. Use simple sealed storage, keep spare batteries protected and avoid changing lenses where wind carries salt or fine dust.

Trip-specific guidance comes first.
